New York Fashion Week is soon upon us, which means a fresh batch of complete and utter delight for the fashion conscious. All eyes will be on the runways as each new collection walks the runway, awaiting the verdict on trends for next spring. I’m freaking out a little bit thinking about it. I love seeing the fun new silhouettes, prints, juxtaposition of textures, all the way down to the styling of accessories. Every bit of it. So exciting! But why wait til Fashion Week to start thinking about trends for spring? After an all-out meta-analysis of style projections, I’ve got 4 predictions of trends we will be seeing on the runways this fall and on racks this spring.
|| seventies vibes ||
Peace, love, seventies, baby! Think Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, before the whole romance and almost-parents thing, and back on the set of That Seventies Show in bell bottoms and vintage polyester. This trend is back and groovier than ever. DVF, Badgley Mischka, and Emilio Pucci featured undeniably seventies prints and silhouettes in their Pre Spring/Summer 2015 Ready-to-Wear collections. Diamondere’s pendant white gold key necklace with diamond accents is the perfect fit for this retro trend.
|| grandma chic ||
It seems the fashion world is taking a cue from hipsterland on this one. Those vintage florals, crochet tops, and lacey accents all fit the bill for this up and coming trend. I love how Diamondere’s emerald-cut pink tourmaline necklace rocks that antique heirloom essence. The industry’s biggest names are elevating fabrics that look like they could have been found in your grandma’s attic with modern shapes like Honor’s Pre Spring/Summer 2015 lilac twosie combo. The sage green midi dress by Gucci and Nanny McPhee-esque shirt-maxi ensemble by Valentino make it clear… Granny is back in town and is looking hotter than ever.
|| normcore essence ||
This trend is decidedly anti-trend. And yet, picking up speed and showing up in the Pre Spring/Summer 2015 collections of lines like Elizabeth & James, Altuzarra, and Marc by Marc Jacobs. If I could describe normcore in two words, it’s glamorized ordinary. Don’t these white gold “K” earrings by Diamondere totally capture the vibe? You know those ’90’s sitcoms like Seinfeld and Cheers? And also your neighbor who simply doesn’t care a lick about trends and so has worn the same Levi Dungarees and Adidas flip flops since middle school. Yep that’s what we’re going for here. In the words of Lorde, “It’s a new art form showing people how little we care”.
|| kaleidoscopic prints ||
We saw a bit of this start up with Chanel’s rainbow watercolor print for Spring/Summer 2014, and the trend is morphing to take a techno architectural direction. Rave prints are going to be all the rage this spring. We’re seeing the symmetrically playful fabrics in pre Spring/Summer 2015 collections by Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen, and Valentino. The golden scrolls in this gorgeous Diamondere ring remind me of a pattern that would be seen through a kaleidoscope, and the vibrant blue sapphire totally fits this trend’s celebration of all hues. So get ready to embrace your inner color fanatic and go bold this spring!
