My R&R trip to FL with the fam is coming to an end. Sad to leave this sunny state, but very happy to return to my amazing husband and friends back in Minneapolis. Tomorrow we get in the minivan for the 24-hour trip home. But, before I leave this post, I think it’s time I make a special statement:
This is to the grandma that was sitting at the beach today. I’m really bad at frisbee. I’m sorry that you had to bear the brunt end of my poor skills. I hope your face feels better soon!! I’ll work on my aim.
Oh dear.

active dates

Patrick and I LOVE active dates. We got really into tennis last summer. We love to explore the cities for little pockets of nature to hike. Sometimes we find a basketball court to shoot hoops. And don’t even get me started on volleyball, that’s my fave. Racquetball is another sport that’s a hoot. We are all about organized sport outings with friends: kickball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, football. The only run we have gone on together that I can mentally count as a date is the one that involved a smoothie from jamba juice at the halfway point. But that was fun 🙂
Both Patrick and I can get highly competitive. The problem for me is, Patrick’s skill set tends to outweigh mine in basically every one of the above active activities. And the second problem for me is, Patrick has had experience dealing with his competitive nature in sports encounters, while I have had no such thing. You already know I have a dramatic stripe. I’m basically a nutcase out there getting really really into whatever sport we are doing, talking smack, the whole deal, getting frustrated, and always coming up short. And I don’t know, but I get the sense that that’s why he likes going with me so much. I put up enough of an effort for it to still be a game, and my competitive outbursts provide entertainment on the side. We are getting deeper into March which means there will be a resurgence of active dates again soon. PLUS we just upgraded our fitness membership to one where there are pools and courts of all kinds. I can’t wait to hit them up with my love.

Oh my goodness, I LOVE my mom’s camera! & I LOVE that my mom is so sweet to take these phots. These backgrounds are 4000 times better than my walls and furniture back at home 🙂 It’s really fun to have this blip of summer while it’s snowing in Minnesota. I can’t even crack a joke about my white legs being white because of summer, because… guess what? They will remain this starkly white ALL through summer 🙂 Besides the occasional pink. But not if I have something to say about it. Which I do. It’s called, constant application and reapplication of sunscreen. Ok, back to vaca!

First in my heart

I woke up this morning a little late. Who am I kidding though, that is pretty much the norm. No time for breakfast, so I treated myself to a strawberry banana smoothie with whipped cream at Mickey D’s. So fruity. So fabulous. I’m in like with it. Mid-smoothie, I get one of those really-good-news phone calls. I got this job for when I graduate my Masters of Social Work program in May. A job I will love. This, among other things, led to me being newly struck again by the immeasurable blessings in my life. And the goodness of the Lord. I’m feeling extremely gushy towards Him right now. And all of you will suffer the consequences of my gushiness ☺

Do you have a song that you play when your heart is wanting to express as much adoration to God as possible, but you feel like your own words simply can’t get there? In times such as this, I play “Be Thou My Vision”. Not just any version. Ginny Owens. I like the simplicity of it. It’s just her smooth, breathy, clear voice. No special effects. It’s striking. It centers me. And it’s historical between me & God. I mean, this one goes back to some of my middle school quiet times with God. And I just sit there, by myself, like a crazy-in-love fool. Hands lifted high to the Lord, eyes full of passion and peace, in silence, letting the words and melody of the song be my deepest prayer to God.

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heav’ns Son!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O ruler of all.

mmmm…! Now that is a delightful little something to chew on. Well, I’m off to get ready for Valentine’s Day! My hubby is surprising me with the exact happenings of the evening, but I know it involves ASIAN FOOD. And getting all dolled up. Which makes for an extremely happy Lindsey! Tell you more about it tomorrow ☺
