Menswear-Inspired

From the boyfriend jeans to the menswear plaid houndstooth blazer (complete with elbow patches), I’ve taken a cue from the classy granddads of the world on this one. Goodness, at this rate, by next post I’ll be smoking a cigar and playing chess. This blazer though! With the heritage-style plaid, it was already love at first sight. Then I saw the elbow pads- dead giveaway. It was coming home. It’s already been an excellent companion this Fall and it’s got the looks of one that will stick around my wardrobe for a long time.

In other news, I passed my LICSW exam! 8 years of studying, learning, consulting, field experience, paper-writing … and with one click of a button, I found out that I would be receiving licensure to practice psychotherapy independently, for families, children & individuals. I don’t talk a lot about my day-job on here, but thought I would share this pretty big milestone with you. Thankful to the Lord my God for giving me motivation when I was feeling low, perseverance for the tougher moments, and passion for those I could hopefully aid in some way through working together. Humbled by the process and looking forward to embarking on this new jaunt of my professional journey.

One more thing… would love to have you check out Fearless Fashionista! It’s a magazine-type fashion blog with trend reports, shopping guides, recipes, and beauty posts. I’ve been writing the blog for the last few months for 5 local shopping malls. You may find it incredibly awesome. Scratch that. You will find it incredibly awesome. 😉

Academy of Color

It’s days I slip into an outfit like this that I really feel the full extent of my love for fashion. I walk with a little more spring in my step. Call me crazy, but I love mixing three bold saturated hues and then adding in accessories with just the right touches, like the bows on my toes and the tortoise accents on the purse and frames of the glasses. So today is the day I jump on a bus with a bunch of high schoolers and head to Rochester for MEA, a Christian youth convention for MN students. I’m heading down there with the the youth group I’ve been helping out with at my church, Substance. I’m fairly certain I’m about to be blown away with this experience. It’s been a while since I was in youth group myself, and no doubt my energy and hip factor has waned a tad. I’m sure I’ll come back with a lot of new slang, and bags under my eyes. But hopefully some great memories with these students I’m loving getting to know more. Such a blessing to be able to get to know them and help them as they figure out their faith!
I know we’re still a couple days away, but as I’m signing off til Monday…have an excellent weekend!

Contrast in Classics

Do you notice something a little out of the ordinary in this outfit? It’s the color black! I hardly ever wear it. I’m much more drawn to other neutrals like white/beige/tan. Mostly because I don’t love the striking contrast that it brings to outfits. Just a personal aesthetic thing. But in this outfit, it really worked. I wove the black through the look to keep it all unified. Another fun little tip? Spice up your favorite necklace by layering another with it. I could wear these pearls every day, but made it just a little different by pairing it with the black one.

Falling for Foliage

There’s something about an open field and a pile of leaves that churns up the most juvenile and jolly of moods. I mean. Such frolicking and laughing as one would expect from a schoolgirl. Although, it could be partially attributable to the 1/4 shot of espresso in my latte 7 hours earlier. Can’t completely rule that out. Well, ladies and gentlemen, it is FRIDAY! So now we all have a reason to go jump in a leaf pile and frolic in a field! Woohoo!
