Designer Picks

The sixties mod shift dress is so chic, I love the pairing of the contrasting colors in the geometric pattern. And the little olive juice skirt… simply adorable. Colorblocking in variations of the same color family is so attractive. I could see it paired with a chambray top and a white bubble necklace. Ya feel in me? And the print on the black and white top is like funkified Cruella de Vil.

I could get lost adoring the whitewashed neutral tones in these gorgeous jackets. Understated romance in a ridiculously modern way. Kinda want to slither up in one of these upon the immediate. The contrast leather is impeccable… spot on! I might just hereby announce Helmut Lang as master of all outerwear. Can we make that official, peeps? Oooo, I’m imagining loads of layering options with these puppies.
For the bold and glamorous, these pieces scream ladylike high society. Eric Clapton starts singing in my head every time I glance at the lace dress on the left… “lady in red…” And then I look to the right and feel compelled to make up my own tune called “lady in gold-toed boot…” (sounds promising, right?). The checked tweed skirt is oh so marvelously preppy, and what a fun touch of sass with the leopard print bag.
It’s all primary colors here. Rich, saturated hues dominate fall fashion. Can’t say I’ve ever been drawn to royal blue leather until now. Thinkin that the slouchy twisty tan sweater just above it would make for a slick meets casual kind of look. And stop the world, these pants are exquisite! I’ll wait here while you stare for a few more minutes with me. Gahhh, seriously perfection. From the subtle striations to the gentle pleat, there is nothing to be desired here.

Well, thank you Farfetch for divulging my little swoonfest here. Ya’ll can discover a range of designer clothes from, like I just did. It’s nuts! So much eye candy.

Pop of leopard

This leopard print top is from Statement Boutique in an adorable nook of downtown Minneapolis. Statement has some great knits and fur accents in for fall, as well as this chic beyond chic and mega slick dress. Plus lots of gorgeous, unique jewelry by local designer Stacey Johnson. So, local girls, give this shop a visit the next time you’re downtown!

This is what I wore to the Emerging Designer Showcase, a Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week event that lends the runway to fresh talent. Up & coming designers strut their stuff, presenting a mini-collection. I loved these two looks the best:

Pink and orange make a charming pair, especially when juxtaposed with beige. The color blocking was  perfection. And the asymmetrical silhouette with flawless tailoring made Lizzie’s dress an eye-catcher. Fresh from an apprenticeship in London, Lizzie is a designer with lots of charisma, definitely one to watch! I also absolutely adore this head-to-toe white look. Such a clean, modern look. I would love to prance around in this at a beach resort on the west coast. Gets my vacation juices percolating.

I enjoyed the show with beautiful bloggers, Chelsea & Jennifer! Such darling companions I’ve shared lots of laughs, ooh’s & ahh’s, and sassy little blogger-esque runway commentary with during mspfw!

Leopard and Lime

A few shots from a stroll I took with the hubby and one of our dear couple friends around Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis. It was a brisk but sunny day and I loved being all layered up! Undoubtedly one of the highlights of the walk for me was when the guys did a little Ruby Girl-inspired posing session. Best photos ever hahaha. Lots of tush-popping and lip-puckering and even a leap into the air or two. Oh goodness I love our friends!

See how else I styled this blouse (here), this coat (here & here), and these pants (here).

T-shirts & Tulle

Oh you KNOW I rock pretty little frilly thangs as much as possible, like this stunning little tulle skirt from Lily & Violet. One of my favorite little styling techniques is tempering feminine-a-licious pieces with some urban edge, like these leopard heels and the gold arm swag. Pairing the skirt with a t-shirt puts tulle on the Most Versatile on Earth list. It’s oh-fish. Right next to denim 🙂 Ok, so please go check out Lily & Violet, they’re the coolest. Fresh out of Minneapolis, baby!
Speaking of the Mini-Apple. MSPFW is launching up (eeeep!), which means another round of…

A little bit rustic

I’ve had this sweater dress and faux fur vest outfit swirling around in my mind for a while. And it finally got chilly enough to wear it! I’m going to kick myself for wishing chilliness upon my soon-to-be-frozen-tundra city. But for now, I’m welcoming fall with open arms! And with it, priority renewal. Isn’t it crazy how the weather warms up and weekends turn into trips here and there, and suddenly laundry is stacking up and veggies are amassing incomprehensible levels of mold in the fridge… I’m all for spontaneity and footloose & fancy free-ness but you guys there’s something about the change in seasons that gives me a newfound appreciation for schedule & structure. But mostly just getting first things first again. In lieu of that, Patrick and I are starting up another round of reading the Bible in a year. Because for us, it is so important, above all else, to guard Jesus’ place as center point in our lives. And there is nothing more life-giving and renewing than spending time with God, reading the words He destined to be in our hands today, to stand through time and bring freedom and joy to anyone who takes them to heart. Seriously, so good! Ahh… love it 🙂
