Jade and Onyx

I’m not sure if I’ve told you this yet or not, but I’m learning to sew. I’m also learning to golf. But that’s beside the point. One of the people teaching me to sew is a friend who happens to be an elite sewer. I’m quite sure of it. I can say this with confidence because while purchasing form pillows, the ladies at Jo-Ann Fabrics huddled around my pillowcase like it was the Mona Lisa. The ladies at Jo-Ann Fabrics! Craft people. Dang it I should have put “Impress the ladies at Jo-Ann Fabrics” on my bucket list so that I could be crossing it off right now.

Nautical Peplum

This skirt… oh goodness, I’m kinda crazy about it. The A-line hip-forming structure is such a fun detail. And almost countertuitively flattering, with the extra hip action slenderizing the hip & legs. I let the red & stripes do their nautical thing and kept the other details neutral. In this outfit, I’m ready to hit up a delicatessen for lunch, ideally in Italy, but downtown Minneapolis will suffice for now 🙂

Our laundry basket may have been teeming just a few miles away, but this weekend we loafed around like a couple of rascals. Patrick & I had a blast on our Vision Trip. Nothing like being surrounded by skyscrapers all weekend, dreaming big together as a couple, & exploring new restaurants. With an impromptu round of hide and seek in our hotel room. I could have kept Patrick at bay for hours if only he hadn’t started snapping the ice bucket tongs and calling through the room for his “young padawan”. I’m sorry but when that one comes out, I can’t contain myself.

Snakeskin

I’m wearing snakeskin pants. Rawrrr… ha. I hope these are a pleasant departure from the ones my mom must have imagined when I told her I bought some. It’s hard to see chic & classy in every pair of snakeskin slacks, but the subtle two-tone print set these apart right away. The exaggerated shoulders top and pointy toe heels add to the modern edge. And I can go no further without properly introducing you to my color block/paneled teal & cobalt bag. She’s sassy and perfectly unique. A very welcome addition to my closet. She’s already shakin things up in there.

Blazer

I melt for a good power shoulder these days. So, naturally this structured shoulder blazer from 2020 Ave caught my eye right away. (Pssst… you might just want to bookmark this boutique. Just eyed up a pleated mint midi skirt there for.. oh $28…!!). The sweet, clean-cut, ladylike colorblock dress from Lulu’s corroborates the the modern, futuristic aesthetic of the blazer. A chic headscarf, coral rosette necklace, and glitter gold pumps round out the look.

Something that’s been on my mind lately is the call (Luke 18:17) to approach Jesus and my faith the way a child would. And actually not just a child, a baby. Even crazier! Working with young kids all day, I’ve got lots of fuel for thought. Their little minds are raw, eyes wide with awe, acceptance and adoration, and they’re just oozing with drool.
Saliva must play some sort of role in this process. There’s just so darn much of it. Where does it come from? Blech. I have a very low tolerance for child goo of any kind. I’m sure babies, with their advanced approach to faith are likely to also have a superior benevolence towards child goo. They probably welcome their little friends’ goo. And even have goo swaps of sorts. In sheer appreciation of one another’s goo.
All goo talk aside, there is a place for rationalization and use of intelligence in faith. It’s a blessing to be able to reason it out. But I believe all things can be used to draw me nearer or push me farther from my God. There is a sweet simplicity in the way babies respond to and approach a good Parent. With faith that He loves them, will care for them, has only the best in mind, and will bring out the best in them. Sometimes I need to set my stewing and brewing aside and just appreciate God in this kind of uncomplicated way.
Enjoy your weekend, woohoo!
Hope you get to eat lots of bizarrely green things this St. Patrick’s day.

Mauve

A statement necklace. It can serve many purposes. Sometimes it’s the glue that holds a look together. Sometime’s it’s the pop of “Wow!” that unique-ifies an outfit. And, like a coffee table book, can make for a pretty natural conversation topic. So, am I saying that the right necklace can not only make you look stinkin awesome, but can also boost your social skills? Yes. I think I am.
Especially THESE lovelies, a few of my favorites from Stella & Dot!
Amanda Mahal, a bright and talented Stella & Dot stylist has generously offered to give one Ruby Girl reader this stunning necklace (… valued at $90!!).
